Ebert named Associate Medical Director for MCHC

EbertUkiah, CA - Recently, Mendocino Community Health Clinic named Justin Ebert as its new associate medical director. Ebert is the first mid-level provider to join the clinical leadership team with authority to help shape MCHC's future. A physician assistant is a mid-level provider with an expertise level between a nurse and a doctor, and MCHC like many healthcare organizations depends on mid-levels to increase its capacity to treat patients. In his role as associate medical director, Ebert will serve a liaison to improve organizational communication as MCHC implements the Patient-Centered Health Home (PCHH) model. He will also mentor other clinicians and work with the Electronic Medical Records team to implement future upgrades. According to MCHC Medical Director Dr. Stephen Vance, "Justin (Ebert) is already involved in a variety of administrative and mentoring roles, and has always been an exemplary team player. He will be working with me and the administrative team in supporting primary care and the Patient-Centered Health Home." In his work with the Electronic Medical Records team, Ebert will communicate with developers and software trainers to explain clinical workflows, so the computer technology can provide the most benefit to nurses and doctors. "I hope to be a voice for nurses and practitioners to determine how we operate and the direction we should go," he said. "My plan is to listen, and if trends emerge then to pay attention." As a provider, he will serve as a mentor for other mid-levels and clinical staff. "He is a natural mentor: he leads by example and is willing to take time to listen and teach," said Chief Operating Officer Carole Press.

The 2012 National Medical Challenge Bowl will be held on Sunday, May 27 during AAPA's IMPACT Conference  in Toronto.

Stanford PA class 2013 students are participating in this year's Challenge Bowl. If you are planning to attend the AAPA annual conference please be sure come by and support the Stanford team.

April 20 , 2009 - 113th Boston Marathon

Boston

The Boston Marathon ranks as one of the most prestigious running events in the world. This honorable position is attained thanks to the long history of the race, the challenging course and the fact that you have to qualify to register as an official participant. In order to qualify every runner must have finished a certified marathon within a certain timeframe determined by the age of the runner. The qualifying standard is high enough to make qualifying for Boston – also known as ‘to BQ’ – quite an achievement in itself. An overview of qualifying times divided into age groups is available here.

Dan Furtado, our pharm instructor is one of the qualified entrants, finished the 42K run in 4:43:17.

Feb 24, 2009 - Physician assistants are well-educated published on Santa Cruz Sentinel

"Thank you for the series on primary care and the dire situation for Medicare patients in our community. However, I need to correct the impression that the education of physician assistants is somehow inferior to that of other clinicians. This suggestion does a disservice to a dedicated group of health care professionals who provide outstanding medical care.

I am a physician assistant and an educator at the Stanford University Primary Care Associate Program. Our program has trained both nurse practitioners and physician assistants for more than 30 years. Students must have significant previous experience in a qualified medical field, whether it be nursing, paramedic, respiratory therapist, foreign-trained physician, medic in the army, etc.

Many physician assistants work in primary care and with underserved populations, providing exactly the kind of care the article points out is critically needed. "
